It is very simple.

Whether you're a novice or an expert!

A MULTITUDE OF ROUTES.

GranTrofeo™ is the biggest rally in the world and you can take part in it on a multitude of routes that have been previously identified for you. Whether they are close to your home, or somewhere else you will be going to.

On each route, you can take part in a regularity event, as explained in the corresponding section, or in a non-competitive tourist event.

In order to have access to the courses and guidance, you must have previously downloaded the app, available on AppStore™ or GooglePlay™. It therefore allows you to select your course, reach your starting point, guide you over the entire distance that makes it up, but also measure your performance if you've opted for the sporting approach.

But before you set off, and once you've selected the route you'd like to take, you'll need to decide which challenge you'd like to enter your performance in (in competition mode). And for that, we invite you to take a look at the following...

And by reading the Frequently Asked Questions below too, you should have it all figured out!

A CHOICE OF SEVERAL CHALLENGES.

The season

As we've already mentioned, you can take part in GranTrofeo™ in touring mode, without any notion of competition. To do this, you need to choose the Just for Fun"challenge". If, on the other hand, you plan to use the application in competition mode, any performance achieved by taking part in a challenge is also included in the overall ranking, the World Championship, which operates by Season.

Brand challenges

Several times a year, challenges are offered by GranTrofeo™ partner brands. They offer the chance to win very specific rewards, as you can discover directly on the application in the DOTATIONS section. The Season is particularly rich and dense, with some fifty challenges on offer throughout the year.

Theme challenges

In addition to the brand challenges, GranTrofeo™ offers other themed events throughout the Season. These themed challenges also allow you to win additional rewards. A few ideas for themes: watchmaking, fine wines, art, iconic objects, books, but also of course cars. Yes, we also give away cars!

FAQ . Frequently Asked Questions

What is it about?

GranTrofeo™ lets you take part in the world's biggest rally, wherever you are, whatever your car and whoever your driver or co-driver is! All you have to do is take one of the 3,000 routes on offer, achieve the most consistent average speed possible over several sections of the course and thus obtain a score, which will enter you in the overall rankings. Themed challenges are offered throughout the year. And for the best, there are prizes to match the theme!

How to take part in?

To take part in GranTrofeo™, you first need to download the app, what you’ve done as you are reading these lines! To join the competition, you must now take one of the suggested routes, complete your regularity test there (achieve a constant average speed over several sections, see also “What is the principle of regularity?”) and thus constitute a score which will be included in the general classification.

Can we really take part in with any kind of car?

It is indeed possible for you to participate in GranTrofeo™ with the car of your choice, as long as it complies with the Highway Code, that it is registered and in order (up-to-date technical control if necessary, valid insurance for example).

Can I participate in GranTrofeo™ if I do not have a driving license?

Yes and no! Participation in GranTrofeo™ is open to anyone aged 12 or over. However, to be behind the wheel, it is essential to have a valid driving license, not suspended when participating in GranTrofeo™.

What is the principle of regularity?

Regularity consists of being regular! How? It is very simple: when you take one of the routes proposed by the application, we calculate your average speed over several sections of it (generally three). We then compare these various average speeds (in absolute value), which will make it possible to obtain a difference between each of them (called delta). We then add up these differences, called the score. This score is therefore a number, with five decimal places, whose unit is the kilometre per hour (such as 2.76921 km/h). The scores of all the participants are then incorporated into a ranking, allowing the winner to be determined. This principle applies to GranTrofeo™ but also to all the specific challenges that may be offered during the year. Note that your configuration allows you toe choose the metric display system.

How to win?

To win a GranTrofeo™ challenge, all you have to do is be the best crew! That is, to have achieved the smallest average speed difference over the different sections of the course you've selected. It's important to note that we're talking about average speed in compliance with the Highway Code, not absolute speed. The most regular is declared the winner. Not the fastest! Please note that the winner of the World Champion Season 2 challenge will be the winner of the second season of GranTrofeo™.

Who are we racing against?

Generally speaking, you race against all crews taking part in the GranTrofeo™. If you opt for a specific challenge, then you race against crews taking part in that challenge only.

Can I choose my opponents and invite my friends?

This option will be active later in 2022.

How does the timing system works?

When you take a course, several timed sections will you establish your score. As you pass through the section checkpoints (virtual and integrated into the application), the time will be automatically taken into account and will allow to calculate the time you have spent going through these sections. Based on the distance travelled on each of them, the system will calculate your average speed. These averages will be compared to each other (in absolute value), which will determine your score. It is important to know that the application will not give you at any time your benchmark average speed, nor the others achieved. Each crew must therefore carry out their calculations using their own resources. Finally, it is by no means a pure speed race, but regularity in full compliance with traffic conditions and the Highway Code.

Can you choose your average reference speed?

In many automobile events based on the notion of regularity, it is possible to choose your average reference speed, low, intermediate or high. In GranTrofeo™ this is also possible. However, this does not work by entering or indicating a speed, but by observing the one achieved on the first section which serves as a reference. It is therefore up to the crew to set their own speed and achieve it.

How do I follow the route?

It’s very simple. The route is to be taken by following the directions provided by the application: the route is indicated on the map, you have to follow!

How to get to the starting point of a route?

Once you have selected a route, the application suggests that you reach its starting point, following the directions provided by the application’s GPS.

What is the distance to cover?

The distance to be covered varies depending on the route but generally fluctuates between 100 and 150 kilometres. Note that the distance to be covered under time control is however very similar from one course to another.

How long does a route take?

It all depends on your driving, but as it must comply with the Highway Code, the proposed routes are scheduled for a period of approximately two to three hours. Note that shorter routes (but while keeping a distance under similar time control) are also proposed for those who wish to participate primarily to achieve a score rather than also involving the touristic aspect.

How to know where the time control is on the route?

The starting point for time control is communicated to you by the application when you are near it. It is the same for the end of this first section. The starting point of the second section is also announced, just like that of the third. All the others remain secret, except for the indication of any end of the course (without any notion of time control).

Are my times of passage at the various checkpoints recorded automatically or do I have an action/manipulation to perform?

Everything is automated and no action from yourself is required.

Can I choose the metric system?

Each user can choose between a display in km/h or mph.

How can I improve my score?

There are several ways to improve your score. Use the "Try again " option, which is offered on the same course as the one you've already completed. You can then try to improve your Score on the same course, whenever you like, for the duration of the specific challenge. This solution is offered in the same direction as your previous attempt, but also in the return direction, potentially following on from your first attempt. You can also improve your Score by achieving a new performance on a different course. And once again, you can use the "Try again" option on this one...

Does it pay to try and improve your Score?

There are two ways to try and improve your Score. Once you've taken a route, the Try again option allows you to do it again - in the same or opposite direction - at a reduced cost (see conditions directly in the app for the route concerned). The other method is to take a completely different route. Under these conditions, participation is subject to a fee, as for the first time.

What score is taken into account if I participate more than once?

The classification only retains your best performance, whether it is GranTrofeo™ or a challenge. However, all performance is kept and displayed in the Profile section of each user.

In the event that I participate several times, is my score the average of all my performances?

Whether you participate once or several times, the score retained for the ranking is the best you have achieved. Absolutely not the average of your various performances.

What happens if I do not respect the Highway Code?

For each route, the system has information that allows it to calculate whether you are driving too slowly or too fast, both of which are dangerous. If you find yourself in either of the two situations, the application will alert you. Please note that there will only be one alert and that you would be disqualified if the incident occurs a second time.

What is there to win?

The first thing to gain is an entertaining experience on the routes proposed by the application. Beyond this aspect, the best way to discover the prizes to be won according to the various rankings is to go to the Prizes section.

What happens in the event of a tie?

A tied Score would mean that two (or more) crews have achieved the same average speed delta to within 5 decimal places. This probability is extremely low, but if it were to occur, the crew having achieved the Score first (at an earlier date than the others) would then be declared the winner. A word of advice: be the first to achieve your Score!

Can I participate without connection?

In order to take part in a GranTrofeo™ challenge, you must have hardware (phone or tablet) equipped with the app. Your hardware must also pick up an adequate network when you start a course.

Can I participate without taking a route?

Of course not! To take part in a GranTrofeo™ challenge, it's imperative to follow one of the proposed courses, while simultaneously using the app and having started the race according to the process indicated by the app.

How long is my Score valid for?

Any Score achieved as part of a GranTrofeo™ challenge is valid for the duration of the challenge. With each new challenge (even with the same name), the counters are reset to zero.

Do we have a limited time to take a route?

As long as your Wheels account is in credit, there is no notion of an expiration date for using them. On the other hand, once you have initiated a course (having started at its KM0.0), you have a maximum time to take it. This maximum time corresponds to a minimum average speed of 37.50 km/k (or 23.30 mph) unless otherwise stated.

Is there a notion of season?

There is no notion of season in the sense of the four we know. However, it is possible that certain challenges are organized each season (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter). Moreover, GranTrofeo™ is based on a notion of season, with an opening and an end date. These are included in the presentation in the application.

Is the classification in a challenge taken into account in the general one (GranTrofeo™) ?

The score achieved in a challenge, and therefore the ranking obtained, is specific to the challenge. The overall Season 2 ranking is that of the dedicated World Champion Season 2 challenge.

Can I win the GranTrofeo™ if I take part in a challenge?

To win the second season's GranTrofeo™, all you need to do is be the winner of the dedicated World Champion Season 2 challenge .

What's a Wheel?

The Wheels are in a way the currency of GranTrofeo™. To take part in the competition and take one of the proposed routes, you must have Wheels. These can be obtained from the Store and you can also use them to choose some of the proposed options.

Do I need any special equipment?

In order to use GranTrofeo™, you must have a device (mobile phone or tablet) with an iOS or Android operating system, and a connection to a telephone operator network. Some will also use more specific material related to regularity but this is neither mandatory nor synonymous with better ranking, believe our experience! It can also be highly recommended that your equipment is being charged while participating in GranTrofeo™ or that you have additional recharging batteries or power banks.

Do I need to pay to take part in GranTrofeo™?

The GranTrofeo™ application can be downloaded for free. However, participation is chargeable, whether it is a course or a challenge and requires Wheels. These can be purchased in the Store section of the app.

Refund policy

No reimbursement is provided for Wheels purchased. However, in the event that a failure, related to the application, prevents you from participating, the Wheels consumed could be subject of a return (of Wheels) on specific and substantiated request.

Can I offer the participation to someone?

It is currently not possible to buy Wheels and offer them to someone else. Without a doubt, this feature will appear in a future release.

Can I offer some of my Wheels to someone?

It is not possible to offer some of your Wheels to someone else.

Is the a limited time to take a route after purchasing some Wheels?

There is no specific time limit for using purchased Wheels. However, a challenge may be offered for a limited time. Certain courses, potentially only accessible via a challenge, may also be offered for a limited time. These details appear directly in the description of the courses or challenges concerned.

Can we follow the course without participating in the competition?

The course to be followed is displayed by the application with the aim of establishing a score. However, it is possible to follow the course without trying to achieve a particular performance. However, once you have selected the course, the shuttlecocks corresponding to the use of the course, such as when participating in a challenge, will be debited from your account.

What happens if the route I have chosen takes a road closed to traffic on the day I participate in GranTrofeo™?

GranTrofeo™ is the biggest rally in the world, the app being the tool giving access to the courses and challenges. It is up to each user to ensure, before setting off on a course, that it is accessible in its entirety. GranTrofeo™ in not intended to act as a substitute for the various private or public companies, providers of information relating to road traffic or other traffic conditions. If one of the roads on the course is closed, in alternating traffic or encounters another traffic complication, your attempt may have to be made again, this time having checked in advance! And you can use the “Try again” option for this.

If an obstacle, slow vehicle or other element disrupts the progress of my attempt on a portion under time control, can I try again and cancel the previous one?

Yes and no. Obstacles, whatever their nature, are part of “the game” and part of the vagaries of open road traffic. Your attempt will be considered by the system to be perfectly valid. But it will be possible for you to try to improve your performance through the “Try again” feature or an another course.

When are my Volants debited from my account?

The Wheels are debited from your account as soon as you confirm your wish to participate and therefore reaching the starting point of the course (KM0.0). However, you take this route, or participate in the challenge, at any time as long as you have not yet passed KM0.0.

What happens if I do not cross the starting line of the KM0.0 of a course?

If you do not cross the start line of a course (KM0.0), you can take it whenever you want. However, be careful with the date you will choose, depending on whether or not you take part in a temporary challenge and whether GranTrofeo™ operates in a seasonal mode.

What happens if I cross the KM0.0 starting line of a course but do not take the entire indicated route?

If you do not take the entire proposed route, beyond a period corresponding to a minimum average of 37.50 km/h or 23.30 mph (excluding contradictory mention) or simply if you do not take the entire route at all, your performance will not be taken into account.

Can I try again if I do not cross the finish line of the course?

As soon as you cross the start line of a course (KM0.0), your performance is taken into account. You are then free to choose the average speed to achieve, knowing that it cannot be less than 37.50 km/h (or 23.20 mph) on the entire selected route. If you do not cross the finish line within a period corresponding to this minimum average speed, or if you do not cross it at all, your performance will not be taken into account although the Wheels are charged. But it will be possible for you to try again to improve your performance thanks to the Try again feature or on another route.

How can the system compare performance achieved on different routes?

This is a regularity competition, based on respecting an average speed (which you set yourself), in strict compliance with the Highway Code, for which the portions under time control are of a similar distance regardless of the route taken. It is not a comparison of speeds on different courses, but a comparison of scores, that is to say of the performance of each one, wherever it was performed. Furthermore, it would be wrong to think that the same route provides a more equitable basis, given the concept of an open road, which in any case induces all the hazards of traffic.

How to receive the prize if my score corresponds to a one?

Everything obviously depends on the prize! If we are talking about Wheels, they are automatically credited to your account. If these are products, we will first check the conformity between the information you provided when registering and the reality (see the Regulation). If these differ, the allocation will be carried over to the next rank in the classification or cancelled depending on the type of prize. If these are compliant, our team will contact you to settle the logistical aspects (at our expense). Finally, if this is the GranTrofeo™ first prize, after the checks mentioned above, our team will also contact you. But get ready to party when you get your prize! Note that certain additional information concerning your Profile may be the subject of a request in the event of the awarding of a prize (such a postal address or similar). Any refusal to communicate in this direction could also lead to the non-allocation of the prize.

Can I convert the prize into financial gains?

The prizes awarded on the basis of performance are as indicated in the application. At no time are there any plans to convert them one way or another. However, once in your possession, and unless otherwise specified, nothing prevents you from using it as you wish, and therefore parting with it.

Can I arrange for another beneficiary to receive the prize for me?

Prizes are strictly won and sent to the user who achieved a performance making the prize eligible. At no time is it intended to assign these to a third party (physical or moral) designated by the beneficiary. However, once in your possession, and unless otherwise specified, nothing prevents you from using it as you wish, and therefore parting with it.

What do the levels of the courses/challenges correspond to?

Certains routes or challenges may involve more or less significant difficulties (distance to be covered, number of sections under time control, etc.). For these same reasons, certain challenges can also be awarded more or less significantly. That’s the reason why the number to Wheels required to participate may vary from one challenge to another and results in the existence of several levels.

Why does the number of Wheels required differ from one course/challenge to another?

Certains routes or challenges may involve more or less significant difficulties (distance to be covered, number of sections under time control, etc.). For these same reasons, certain challenges can also be awarded more or less significantly. That’s the reason why the number to Wheels required to participate may vary from one Challenge to another and results in the existence of several levels.

What to do if my device (phone or tablet) does not pick up the entire route?

If your device experienced connection problems during the journey, this does not exclude that the checking may have been carried out correctly at the various time checks. However, in this case, argued and demonstrable, we invite you to contact our Customer Service.

Can I view all my transactions?

All the transactions carried out can be viewed in the section relating to your Profile.

Can I see all the performances I've achieved?

All the achieved performances can be viewed in the section relating to your Profile.

If I change my device (phone or tablet), will my performance be saved?

All your activity, whether it’s your performance but also your transactions, is stored on our servers and not on your device. To find all this information in the event of a change of device, you simply have to reload the application and identify yourself.

Vocabulary (the different words used)

Route
A route is a section of road proposed by the application. This route is made up of liaison sections which link with those under time control.

KM0.0
KM0.0 is the starting point of the route to take.

Time control
Certain sections of the route are under time control, which means that the application calculates on these the time it takes you to cover the distance. This time, compared to the distance, determines your average speed and therefore allows you to participate in the regularity competition.

Average speed
The average speed is the result of the calculation between the time taken to cover a certain distance and this distance. It is crucial in GranTrofeo™ as it allows you to establish a score and a ranking.

Regularity
Regularity is the fact of achieving several average speeds as close as possible on several distinct sections of the same course.

Score
The routes are made up of several sections under time control, which makes it possible to determine average speeds. The first performed serves as a standard (reference). The others (the number may vary according to the Challenges but generally speaking, two other sections under time control appear on the courses) must be as close as possible to this first one. The difference between the first and the second, in absolute value, is added to the difference between the first and the third (and so on if there are more than three sections under time control), in absolute value. The sum obtained determines the cumulative difference between the various average speeds achieved. This total is called Score in the application.

GranTrofeo™
GranTrofeo™ is the name of the application. From 2022 onwards, it will also be the name of the general ranking that compiles all the scores achieved. Note that this general ranking operates in season mode and is reset at the end of each season.

Challenge
GranTrofeo™ is the overall classification. However, challenges are also proposed by the app. Their operation is strictly identical to that of GranTrofeo™. But the length of time to participate, the choice of routes, the difficulty, the prizes and access costs may differ.

Wheels
The Wheels are the app’s currency. They allow you to take part in the various challenges or GranTrofeo™ as well as finance your various participation options.

Try again
“Try again” is an option that is proposed to you once you have taken a route. It allows you to try to improve your score on the same course, at any time, in the same direction as previously used or a return direction, however during the period of validity of the Challenge or of GranTrofeo™ season.

General ranking
From season 2 in 2022, the general ranking will be the compilation of the various scores achieved by all app users. This general ranking will operate by season and will be called GranTrofeo™.

Starting point of the course
The starting point of the course is what is also known as KM0.0. This is the exact place where the course begins. The application’s guidance system will take you there for each selected route (as long as it is on the same continent as you!).

Section
The section is a portion of the course. It can be liaison or under time control in order to establish the calculation of your average speed.

Distance to cover
The distance to be covered is the sum of the kilometres that make up the route.

Highway Code
This is rule number 1 to respect. Participating in GranTrofeo™ absolutely requires compliance with the Highway Code of the country where the route is located. It is also advisable for each user to find out about potential local specificities.

FAQ v1.1 of 05/01/2021
